What in the world is God doing through Harrisburg? That is a good question with even better answers. Below please find and read and pray over the blog post we have included here regarding the work being done in West London amount university students. We have sent Katelyn McCoy to work alongside IMB missionaries (the Belmores) and we asked her for a update of what she and God have been up to.

Jesus says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). This has been the anthem of this time. Both as the proclamation of the gift of life from death through Christ for me and as a believer the joy that I get to share this abundant life alongside other believers BUT also invite others into that abundant life through the opportunity to share the gift of Christ that they can receive.

The last few weeks have been anything than what I expected. Of course, I can say without a doubt in a good way. Walking into the first few weeks, we were immersed deeply in the ministry that was actively being cultivated through the obedience of the missionaries and believers already on the field in London.

We were not just there observing the way the team does university ministry but were
immediately invited to come alongside them. It was both encouraging and stretching, but I would not have wanted it any other way. Through it I remain continually reminded of my need for the Lord and that his power is made oh so perfect in my weakness and what a privilege it is to be pruned and refined by the Lord.

Ministry itself looks differently week to week; however, it is consistently being present and
involved at university campuses across the London area. As interns, much of our time is spent in small groups (2-3 people) spread out interacting/gaining information on other campuses that the career team here is seeking to start ministry. We do consistently serve and do life alongside many students of Brunel University where there is currently an active Christian Campus ministry where the gospel is being taught and discussed weekly alongside believers and unbelievers.

The Lord is so evidently at work here in London. It has been a privilege to serve and learn
alongside the Belmores, Jay, Lauren, Riley, and the local believers here. SOOOO much more to come!

Praises:

I get to be a part of the sweetest community that is here! Being on the field in a

foreign country, can be so lonely. The Lord has been so sweet to provide not only
community but deep relationships through here already.

The team dynamics of everyone on the team is has been going very well.

This past Sunday, one of the Brunel students was baptized! Praising the Lord for His

faithfulness and Ben’s step of obedience.

Prayers:

The girls (7 total girls) have a long travel to and for the city (about 3hr roundtrip

everyday) which has been a tough transition for most of us especially with it being public
transportation.

One of my teammates who I am around has opened up about her desire to know

more about the Bible. Pray for opportunities to get to walk with her and both her desire
to be in the word and for her willingness to ask me questions. As well as for wisdom as I
walk alongside her here. We were able to get her a study bible! Sometimes the Lord
works in the places you least expect it this has been one! But a sweet one!

For the universities us interns are seeking to engage with in London. Universities

here are very different than back in the states as access to most of these campuses is
very difficult. (think kind of like a public high school where you can get on campus but
very limited places to be.) Prayers for holy interruptions on these campuses, people to
be welcome to us asking questions, and for the Lord to cultivate His kingdom amongst
the students who attend.

The local believers and specifically the younger generations. As I have talked with

much of the local believers living for the Lord and desiring to walk faithfully, a common
themes is how very difficult it is here (as it is everywhere) BUT I want to ask you to
specifically, pray for those believers here. A lot of people come in and out of London
which hinders deep relationships but also provides a great opportunity to see the gospel
spread as people scatter from here.

Softened hearts and curious minds that are ready and willing to listen and ask

questions AND for the equipping of those only ground to share who Jesus is what he
has done and how he can change their life forever.

Specifically for mercy for the Lord to first and foremost guard my heart and mind and

for the truth to continually be at the forefront of my mind during the fun times and the
harder ones here in London.

Not just names BUT specific People (some believers and non-believers) I encourage you to be in prayer for:

Nashant

Paige

Lois

Ellie

Qazal

Kindest,
Katelyn McCoy

Introduction to Genesis

Genesis is a large book in the Bible, and this introduction is short for a couple of reasons.
1. The intent is to be brief and get the ball rolling. For more in-depth conversations about Genesis, follow along with our Rooted Podcast.
2. I want you to read the book of Genesis, and if we walk through all of the details in the introduction, you may feel like you "get it" and miss the blessing of God's Word.

Author:
The book of Genesis doesn't have a named author, but Moses wrote it according to the New Testament. (References in John and Acts to Moses giving the people instructions about circumcision & the law through the book of Genesis.)

Date:
Based on the timing of the Exodus of Israel from Egypt, the book of Genesis can be reasonably dated to the 15th Century (1400's BC).

The Book:
Genesis is one of the first five books of the Bible, together these are called the Pentateuch; which is a combination of history and law explaining the origin of the laws they were to follow.

When it comes to the central theme of Genesis, you might want to say that it's a book about creation. When I ask the question, most people initially say the theme is creation. But, consider that there are 50 chapters in Genesis and creation only takes up two chapters when you realize that you begin to see that there is so much more to this first book in the Bible. The focus of the book of Genesis is on the God of creation and covenants, the one who is Faithful and True.

Genesis begins with creation, tells the story of the fall, and promises redemption. Next, Genesis outlines the story of the world, the redemptive work of God through the lines of Seth and Shem, and the covenants God makes with Noah and Abraham.

Context is essential to understanding. Knowing who said it, why it was said, and who it was told to provides the necessary information for understanding the passage.

The people of God had spent hundreds of years in captivity in Egypt. They lived for generations surrounded by the Egyptians' false religion and religious practices. As they make their way from Egypt to the promised land, Moses records the mighty works of God for the benefit and strengthening of the people of God. Through the book of Genesis, God reveals who He is, how the world came to be, and the promises that He has made to those who belong to Him.

Genesis means beginning; this great book of Scripture records so much more than the work of creation. The book of Genesis records for us the history of redemption. Genesis reveals to a faithful and true God. By the time Moses writes, Genesis God has made promises to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Moses writes to those experiencing the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham in their freedom and the journey they are making to the land that was promised to the descendants of Abraham.

As you read through the book of Genesis, keep in mind that everything lost in the Garden of Eden is gained in Christ. The rest promised to Abraham and Moses in the promised land is truly gained in the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Genesis is the beginning, Genesis teaches us that paradise was lost through the first Adam, but in Genesis 3, God whispers the promise of a coming redeemer that would overcome the enemy and give back what was lost. Genesis teaches us that paradise was lost, but the rest of the Bible reveals that what was lost by the first Adam is restored by the last Adam- Jesus Christ.

Resources for article:
Commentaries

K.
